Milton Transitional Housing

There is currently limited provision in the town for homeless people. Homeless individuals and families are shipped out of Milton to outlying towns as there is so little provision for them here. There is acknowledgment that the homeless issue is likely to rise as the population of Milton continues to rise. It is not an issue that can be ignored and does require a coordinated approach by all members of the community and business community.

The St Paul’s Mission & Outreach team, supported by Milton Area Christian Churches Working Together (MACCWT) and in conjunction with Home Suite Hope (Oakville) have established a transitional housing project, Milton Transitional Housing. More information can be found on their website www.miltontransitionalhousing.com.

Transitional housing spans the gap between crisis housing offered by shelters and long-term stable housing in the community. Transitional housing is offered on a case-by-case basis from 4-24 months, while clients work to rebuild their lives and move on. A key element is to counsel clients in meeting short-term and long-term goals, leading gradually to independence and a return to a stable home situation.

Information on this homeless issue in Milton is available through a blog at http://homelessinmiltonontario.blogspot.com.
