Funerals, Memorials, Celebration of Life

Funeral and Memorials at St. Paul’s United Church

Funeral services held at St. Paul’s United Church are offered in Christian hope and faith in the promise of Christ’s resurrection at Easter, that “in life, in death, in life beyond death, we are not alone. God is with us” (United Church of Canada, ‘A New Creed’).

The death of a loved one is a time to recall the miracle of life, to give God thanks for the life of the deceased, and to mourn our loss. The Service may be called “Funeral”, “Memorial Service”, or “Service of Remembrance and Celebration”; all include Scripture, prayers, and commendation of the one who died into God’s eternal care. There may be music, photographs and other symbols of the deceased. The Service may include a casket, or urn, or neither.

Family members are very important in the planning of the service. The minister provides pastoral care and guidance for the family including the arranging of the service.

In Memoriam

Some may choose to make a memorial gift in memory of a loved one. The Walk of Life is located on the south side of the church building right along Main Street Milton. It was dedicated on May 2000 as a memorial those members and friends of the congregation who have died, as well as the names of living parishioners who have donated in memory of loved ones. It is a place where members, friends and others in the community may celebrate and remember loved ones.
